Abortion is a crime against humanity and the greatest injustice in the world today. On October 1st, 2019 The Moral Outcry petition was unveiled before the United States Supreme Court. 250,000 Americans have signed and asked the Court to reverse its abortion cases.
Why is this petition so important? Judicial precedent provides reasons to overturn a Supreme Court decision. A ruling met with general protests, dissatisfaction or severe criticism is one such reason. Hundreds of thousands of citizens calling abortion a crime against humanity most definitely qualifies as severe criticism.
Today we have ways of helping all Americans impacted by abortion, including women who may believe it’s their only or best choice. In the 1973 Roe V. Wade Majority Opinion, Justice Blackmun stated “the judiciary, at this point in the development of man’s knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer [of when life begins].” However, in the past 46 years, our knowledge has greatly increased. We have new medical science unequivocally showing that abortion takes the life of a human being still inside the womb.
In the Majority Opinion for Gonzales V. Carhartt, Justice Kennedy found it “unexceptionable to conclude some women come to regret their choice to abort the infant life they once created and sustained.” So the Supreme Court has already called the unborn child an infant life and admitted women report regretting their abortion.
Safe Haven laws
What about the women who get pregnant and either can’t or won’t take care of their child? Abortion is the more expensive and exclusive option for them. Abortions can cost thousands of dollars to obtain, even with government-subsidized programs.
However, under Safe Haven laws a woman can drop off her baby and the state will take responsibility for the child. Unlike abortion, there is no cost and it’s equally available to the rich and the poor. Safe Haven laws are safe, legal, humane and on the books in every state. Don’t take the life of an innocent child and expose its mother to a life-changing physical and emotional trauma. Instead, give the baby to one of the million people waiting to adopt. Adoption is a win-win-win and a love them all solution. Let’s love the baby, giving justice to the vulnerable children and provide real choice to the mothers. One that does not whitewash the real emotional and physical dangers of abortion.
We must not allow the killing of children. But we also have mercy and love for the mother who can’t take care of her child. Adoption is a just and humane solution to unwanted pregnancies.
We’re not going back to 1973. We’re going forward with new science, with new laws, and a new solution for everyone in America.
